THE TOURNAMENT.
-Che football season terminated yesterday with the Thursday seven-a-side tournament and the postponed events from Saturday last. The tournament took place on the Old Show Grounds at Sydenham, bub was not very largely attended, though the weather was five. The contests, as a rule, were somewhat one-sided, but the exception was the final under the Junior Flag rules, which was won by Linwood after a keen, open game. The winners were Carl, Cox, Stringer, Glennie, McMillan, Pegg, and O'Brien. The winners under the Thursday Flag rules were the Hardware A, a team which was picked for the position 'from the start, and consisted of Austin, Styche, Thomson, Wallace, Clarke, Hawkes, and Lewis. The footracing attracted considerable attention, and some extremely fast times were made for an uneven grass track. The time for the final of the Saturday's race denoted that something was wrong, and as three watches told the same tale, it was suggested thab the track must be at fault. A protest, however, was entered, and its consideration will doubtless elicit -—formation as to the measurement of the track. Messrs Ashby and Batchel-r acted as judges, Watson and S-ndstein timekeepersj • and Cresswell, Reese, and White referees. Appended ate the results: — THURSDAY FLAG. FIRST round. Sydenham beat Farmers' Co-operative Association by 4 points to nothing, two tries scored by H. Petrie after nice rnns. Drapers A beat Grocers by 2 points to nothing ; a try scored by Hebden.
