A GRIEVANCE.
Sir, —If space permits, I would, like to ventilate a genuine grievance through your paper regarding the tardy manner of improving the Papanui road and township. Its inhabitants must be asleep when they see year after year the same old thing going on, and no action taken in the matter, nor'-westers blowing and dust flying in all directions for the want of watering carts, which occasionally are to be seen during summer up as far as May's road, and with a little arrangement at a trifling cost might be extended through to Papanui, this part being the most dusty as well as muddy, and badly lighted end of this important road. Thepresent rain is a God-send to the roads, but one day's nor'-wester will work wonders, and turn the mud which is allowed to accumulate into dust in no time.—Yours, &c., ' Sufferer. 20th September, 1893.
