[With reference to the above message we may state thab Mr Stead received a telegram yesterday from his trainer stating thab Stepniak had struck himself in the Spring Stakes,aud pulled up lame; consequently it was. not likely that either he or Melinite would be able to start again in Sydney.] The latest betting on the race is Brockleigh 100 to 25, Oxide 100 to 16, Liltle Bernie and Warpaint 100 to 12, Sainfoin and Ducrow 100 to 7, Solatium and Jeweller 100 to 6, Paris, Sundial, Aureus and Autaeua 100 to 5, Bossfelian and Lady Trenton 100 to 4. Later. Betting on the Metropolitan is active. Brockleigb has shortened, and is now only 100 to 30.
