ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
An elderly woman named Mrs Hannaford, residing in Montreal street, sustained a fall in her house yesterday morning, and severely injured her hip. Her removal to the Hospital was recommended, aud she was taken to that institution on the ambulance stretcher from the police station by Constables Ramsay and Baiiey. The friends of Mr E. Loomes, of Chaneys, will regret to learn he met with a painful accident ou Saturday. Being on a dray loaded with branches he slipped off and landed with his chest- on a stump, breaking two ribs. Dr. Brittin was soon in attendance, and did all he could for the sufferer, who is now doing well. An accident happened on Monday to a child of Mr J. C. Burberry, Kaiapoi, who slipped into the river opposite Middleton's Hotel. Owing to the depth of the water there was some difficulty in getting i<he child out, and it was a little time before consciousness was quite restored. John Keane, aged sixteen, was drowned in the Mangapiho Creek, fifteen miles inland from Churchill. He fell from a boat. PALMERSTON NORTH, September 18. A carpenter named Joseph Guy, died suddenly in bed this morning in a fit. He was an old resident here, and about sixty years of age. He was in his usual health when he retired to bed last evening.
