CHRISTCHURCH.

The various Municipal Council elections took place yesterday. In the city considerable interest was caused by the contest between Messrs Collins and J. T. Smith, and there was also some excitement at Richmond, where one retiring Councillor, Mr J. A. Flesher, was defeated by three votes. The following are the results :— North-west Ward— J. T. Smith, 301; W. W. Collins, 275 ; informal, 1. Richmond Ward—T. Bunting, 98; J. A. Flesher, 95; informal, 3. Messrs J. T. Smith and Bunting are therefore elected as members for their respective wards.
