EAST CHRISTCHURCH SWIMMING CLUB.

-«_ ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the East Christohurch Swimming Club was held last night; !Mr E. R. Deacon, one of the Vice-Presi-dents, presiding. The Chairman congratulated the Club on the work of the year and on the increase of members. The report of the Committee was then read by the Hon. Secretary. The Committee congratulated the Club on the successes achieved by the representatives at the various swimming meetings during the season. The membership of the Club was over 270, including the lady members, beiug an increase of twenty-seven as compared with the previous season. During the last season 125 new members had been elected. In the Water Polo Championship, of New Zealand, won by the Christchurch Club, the No. 2 team from the East Christchurch were runners up. In the Half-mile Championship, swum at Ashburton, Mr H. Dunnage, the representative of the Club, finished a game second to Mr Bailey, of Auckland. In the 220 yards and the Quarter-mile Champions, the representatives of the Club, Messrs J. R. Murphy and S. L. Partridge, were respectively the former secoud in each event, the latter third in the 220 yards. The annual carnival of the Club, held on December 3rd, 1892, was very successful, and was largely attended by visitors. The annual races were held on February 11th, when there were sixty-four competitors and 118 entries. During the season more seating accommodation had baen provided in the shape of a platform capable of seating 125 persons. The thanks of the Club were due to Mr H. Frost for the able manner in which he had acted as the delegate of the Club in Auckland to the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association. The matter of the removal of the head quarters of the Association to Christchurch had been deferred till the commencement of the approaching season. It was matter for congratulation taat, despite the many expenses incidental to the erection of the new platform, goal posts, <fee., and the large amount awarded in prizes, the season closed with a credit balances. The total receipts during the season had^been £123 8s 3d, and the expenditure £122 19s 6d. The prizes won during the season iwere presented at a very successful social on April 23rd. The thanks of the Club were due to the following for assistance rendered to the Club:— Messrs E. W. Roper, M. Sandstein, E. R. Deacon, J. G. L. Scott, and the East Christchurch School Committee. The election of officers for the ensuing season resulted as follows : — President, Bishop Julius (re-elected); Vice-Presidents, Messrs M. Sandstein, E. W. Roper, E, R. Deacon, W. Recce (re-elected), and C. D. Lightband ; Captain, Mr F. Cresswell (reelected); Deputy-Captain, Mr A. Duncan ; Committee, Messrs F. W. Johnston, F. W. I Hobbs, C. le Mercier, R. N. Duncan and H. Lightband; Hon. Secretary, Mr R. O.Duncan ; Hon. Treasurer, Mr A. E. Taylor; Auditors, Messra W. E. Mills and F. D. Kesteven. The meeting then concluded. I
