WELLINGTON NOTES.
August 30. Almost every temperance body in the city and suburbs has passed resolutions protesting against the passing into law of the Government Liquor Bill. A monster meeting of citizens is convened for Friday evening, the Mayor to preside, when the matter will be fally discussed. Sir Robert Stout will be amongst the speakers. Ninety-foor female teachers have petitioned the Wellington Education Board to investigate and ta_ke action re the present loir state of their pay as compared with salaries paid to men. • The harbour at the present time swarms with flush of different kinds, and some big hauls have been made. Sardines this year are present in large shoals, and kawnai and horse mackerel are more plentiful than they ever have been. The fishing industry is going ahead here. Another rising young lady vocalist of this city, Miss Marguerita Johnson, not unknown in the South, is leaving for Melbourne shortly to study the higher branches of the art. She is to be given a complimentary concert by the leading musicians of the city before her departure,
