GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
In the Legislative Council yesterday the Waste Lands Committee reported relative to the forest reserves withdrawn. On. the Colonial Secretary's motion, the matter was referred back to the Waste Lands Committee in order that the evidence of the Minister for Lands might be token. The Lyttolton Orphanage Lands Vesting Bill was read a first time. Three Government ■measures—the Sale of Poisons Amendment Bill, Araenio and Cyanide of Potassium Bill, and Timber Floating Amendment Bill —were read a third time. The Public Domains Act, affecting the Te Aroha reclamation reserve and the Auckland Domain, was further considered in Committee, and was reported with amendments.
In the Bouso bf Representatives to-day Mr Beddon, introduced the Mining on Alienated Lands BilL The afternoon was then taken up with a batch of local Bills, which were put through their final stages, with the , exception of the Nelson Institnte Reserve Bill, to which the assent of the Crown was refused and it was discharged from the Order Paper. At the evening Bitting the Kocond reading of the Road Boards Act Amendment BUI was agreed to, but the House refused the same concession of grace to the Referendum Bill and New Zealand Institute of Journalists Bill. The Fencing Act Amendment Bill, the Agricultural and Pastoral Societies Amendment Bill, the Public Health Act Amendment Bill, and the Deceased Husbands Brothers Marriage Bill passed their final stages. The House adjourned at 11.45 p.m.
