DRAINAGE BOARD.

An ordinary meeting of the Chriatchuroh District Drainage Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present—Messrs G. Molntyr* (in the chair), C. J. Mountford, £L Bonniog* ton, W. J. McAlpine, H. Crooks, C. Palairet and S. Smart. Apologies were received for the absence of Messrs J. Deans and H. P. HilL The Secretary and Treasurer reported :— "Amount of rates received since last meet* ing, £776 2s 4d; received from other sources, £95 103 5d ; expenditure since last meeting, £357 13s 4d; amount of 1890 rates outstanding, £54 13s 2d ; amount of 1891 rates outstanding, £132 8s lid ; amount of 1892 rates outstanding, J8759 0* 6d; amount of 1392 rates collected to date, £17,754 0s 6d ; amount of 1893 r»fce collected to date, £563 2s 7u; amoonC of debit balance £8084 195." , and^eanding-mg^^g^^^-

The City Surveyor wrote that to widau the road round the river between the Canterbury Boatahed and Windsor terrace, a small piece of the river would have to be taken in, but to preserve the width of the stream it was proposed to widen tiie river* bed on the west siae. . The Engineer to the Board reported favourably on the proposal provided the encroachment did not exceed 10ft, that the width of the water-way was preserved, and no loose stuff was allowed to find its way into the river. The Board approved of the proposal is terms of the Engineer's minute. A petition was presented from the residents on Glandovey and Carey reads, district of Bryndwr, pointing out the great inconvenience they suffered, from want of a drain to carry oft the surface water from their houses and grounds, and they prayed the Board to remedy the trouble. The petition was referred to the Work* Committee to report. The Board dealt with some departmental letters, passed accounts amounting to £357 13s 4d, and then adjourned.
