FOOT BALL.

J. T. M.

TO THE EDITOr j OF THE PRESS. Sir,—There seems pto .be a very general wish on the part o. s footballers in Christchurch that a mate. I should be played between the team the North Island at present in AustranrX and a team composed Irom Clubs in the '/South Island.

If such a m* 1 V*oh had been arranged previous to the t< (am leaving New Zealand, it would no do',4bt have caused considerable interest, aru3«*" been productive of perhaps a game ; but I think a infj-T-ch on the return of the team from Austr alia would be nothing short of a farce, as the so-called New Zealand team would by that time have had considerable practice together, and would, without a doubt, play with a great deal of combination, but a tc?4in made up in the South Island would I liuve very little chance of obtaining an *,-qual amount of combination, and as it is well known that good combination will win almost any game, the proposed match would, in my opinion, be a very one-sided affair.

If a match between the two Islands had been arranged giving each team an equal chance, I have no doubt that the Southern team would hold their own with credit; but it is too much to expect them to do so against a team who have had the practice together as our North Island friends have had.—Yours, &c, Equality.
