Live Stock News.—Amongst the most noticeable of the many attractive items iv this week's issue of the Weekly Press are the contributions of our contemporary's most energetic and capable writer " Straggler," who is again to the fore with an excellent budget of stock news, in addition to a very interesting sketch of the Southdown" flock of Mr Samuel Garforth, of Spreydon Lodge.

Runaway.—A young horse, in a trap belonging to Mr T. \V. Alurfitt, bolted down High street, Rangiora, on Wednesday morning, knocking Over a trap and throwing the occupant, Mr Geo. Newble, out. He was not much hurt.

Magisterial.—At the Resident Magistrate's Court, Christchurch, yesterday, Mr Beetham, U.M., being on the bench, Christina Lawsoti, for drunkenness, was fined 10s, or, in default, forty-eight hours' imprisonment. Kate Moore and Frederick Kiilock, charged with indecent behaviour in Hagley Park, were rehianded till to-day. Presentation to Captain Andrews.—After the review yesterday a presentation was made by the Christchurch Rifles to Captain Andrews, who is about to visit England on six mouths' leave of absence. The presentation, which consisted of a pair of field-glasses, was made by Lieutenant who alluded to the energetic way in which Captain Andrews had worked for the corps, especially in the eucouragemeut he had given to shooting, which had been the means of thair winning the Battalion Shield. Captain Andrews feelingly responded, and urged the men to keep loyally together and endeavour to maintain the corps. The glasses bore tbe following inscription :—" Presented to Captttin Andrews by his corps on his leaving New Zcalaud.— May 24, 1893." Pkoposud Bazaar at Kaiapoi. —- A meeting, attended by thirty-ono ladies, was held in the Kaiapoi Volunteer orderly room, last evening, to arrange for the holding of tbe b&znar iv aid of funds for the gymnasium and cadets'' uniform fund. Captain Wilson presided. Captain Alexander, Lieutenants Millar, Simpson and Lynakey were also present. The question of tho bazaar was taken op with much enthusiasm by all present, and it was determined it should be held in October next. Four large fancy goods and drapery stalls were arranged for, as well as flower and refresment stalls, and, the ladies volunteered to form groups to conduct the same. The management of a produce stall was referred to the Men's Committee. After a general discussiou on the work to be undertaken, the Chairman, on behalf of all interested in the objects of the bazaar, said it was most cheering to witness tbe cordial sympathy shown by the ladies, and he had no doubt but the affair would be consummated iv a very handsome result, such as undertakings of that nature of that nature had been hitherto favoured.

Entertainment. — A most successful entertainment was giveu last night in Hi. Patrick's Hall, Barbadoes street, in aid of the Catholic schools. Richmond Free Methodist Church,** The anniversary celebration of this church was continued last evening, when tho annusl soiree took place.
