THE MIDLAND RAILWAY.
(PBBSS ASSOCIATION TELSQKAM.) GREYMOD'CH, December 19. A public meeting, with the Mayor in the chair, was held to-night re the Midland raiiway, when the foilowiug resolutions were carried unanimously:—(l) "This meeting views with alarm the difficulty between the Government and Company, and considers the work of colonial importance and vital to Canterbury and the coioay." (2) " TMa meeting considers that the Company's proposals' in the interest of the colony should be favourably deals with by the Cabinet, with the view of settling the difficulty by completing the railway." (3) " That the settlement of the Coast ia seriously retarded through the six million acres reset ved for the Company's land grants; and the opportunity now offering to free that area from the reservation, die. meeting strongly recommends the Government, in the interests of the colony and settlers within the reserved area, to resume their former position and deal with the land under the liberal Land Act of bet session. , ' Copies of the resolution are to be forwarded to the Government and Minister of Works. The tone of the meeting was moderate and argumentative. Several speakers emphasised the opinion that Mr Seddon was acting with the beat motives in the matter.
