Pmm AeeoeUtien—ElecSrio Telegraph—Copyright. London, December 16. The Bauk of England returns published to-day show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be £15,762,000, the proportion of reserve to liabilities being 48.10.
Three months bills are discounted at 1£ per oent.
Consols—97^, New Zealand Four Per Cent, inscribed stock 105J, 3£ do 96£. New Zealand long berried wneat ex warehouse 325, restricted,
Mutton — Canterbury 4 1-16 d, Wellington 3|d. Beef—Forequarters 3d, hindquarters 4d. The market is glutted with cheap frozen meats of all kinds. Nelson Brothers are holding back a consignment by R.M.S. Massilia from Melbourne for a better market. The consignees of the Ofcaratna'a damaged meat are claiming about 3d pec cent, from the underwriters.
The hemp market ia dull. Ten bales of New Zealand sold at £24 ss.
There is a large supply of kauri gum in the market, and competition is active. Fine pale, hard scraped, is bringing £8 10s, and bid, half scraped, £3 15s ; fine class, £4 4s.
Danish butter 130s. The Eimutaka's butter brought 90s to 116s, and a few of the best packages 120s. The condition of the shipment was excellent.
South Australian wheat ex warehouse 33s 6d, flat; Victorian do 335, weaker.
Sugar—Best German beet, £14 Hβ 2d ; Java, 16s 6d.
No. 1 best Sootch pig iron, f.0.b., in Clyde 41s 9d, steady.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company; Limited, have received the following cable message, dated London, 15th December:—
Wool—'The sales closed fairly well this day. Since close of last sales the following alterations have occurred in prices :—Medium and inferior greasy merino and coarse greasy* washed and scoured crossbred are par at §d per lb higher j super greasy merino, medium and inferior scoured merino, fine and medium greasy crossbred and greasy merino and crossbred iambs are |d to Id per lb higher; super scoured merino is
Id to lid per \b higher; medium washed and scoured crossbred is par at |d per lb lower; five washed and scoured crossbred is to Id per lb lower. The total quantity sold during thepastsales is 212,000 bales, of which 135,000 bales have been taken for the Continent and 5000 bales for America, It is estimated that SOOO bales have been held over for future disposal.
The same Company have received the following cable message, dated London 16th December:—
Frozen Meat—Market unchanged, quotations unchanged since last tele* gram. (Last quotations were—Canterbury mutton, id per lb.)
Tallow is ready of sale, and has advanced 3d per cwt. since last report.
