There was a great uproar in the Chamber owing to the insults levelled at M. Rouvier by Boulangists, but the majority accepted his statements. M. Tirard succeeds him as Minister of Finance. M. Hera has written so the Panama Canal Committee, stating that sickness prevents his personal attendance, but he offers to supply the Committee with all the information in his possession. It is reported that President Car not Is anxious to resign, as he complains that his Ministers are feeble and aot willing to make any sacrifice, December 15. The Committee engaged in enquiring into the ecandals connected with the Panama Canal Company, to-day, examined M. M. Rouvier, Clemenceau and Conatans, but elicited nothing new beyond the fact that Baron Reinach's death was due to criminal aots of bribery, and .that he had threatened suicide. The doctors who made the autopsy on the remains of Reinach discovered traces of atropine in the body. The scandal is believed to be weakening the Cabinet, also the position of the President and the Republic.
