SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL.
&a ordinary meeting of the Selwja Ccuaty Council was Leld on Wednesday, when there were present Messrs D. McMilku (Chairman), W» Dunlop, J; Beunie, W, Boag, J. G. Murray, B* yVeateara, H, W, Peryraau, T. H. Anson. A letter was read from the Rakaia Road Board stating that the repairs to the Coalgate bridge bad been completed. The Chairman's action in paying the. amounts due on the contract for repairing &c bridge was approved. < ' Letters were read from the Tai Xapn, ; little River, and Hakwell Road Boards, aad Naill Bros., with, reference to the contract for cleaning the River HalswelL, It was reported that several members of the Council had waited upon the Minister &r Lands with reference to the drainage of vie Ellesmere flat lands., and he bad suggested that the Council should make a recommendation as to what was required to i>e done to the works to complete them, Mr Muebay said they should obtain a report from an engineer as to what was necessary to be done, and that the report »c forwarded to the Government with a request that the work be completed before «> is handed over to the Committee for SJ&intenance. -
It was decided, after a discussion, oa the notion'of Mr Pe&yhax, seconded by Mr Ressie—"That Messrs Quealey and East, Clerks respectively to the Tai Tapu and Lincoln Road Boards, be asked to make a joint report upon the HalsweU drainage works and to give an estimate of the cost of patting them in thorough repair. *Hie tender of Mr Anderson for the supply « dog collars at 6d and sd, and Ud for badges was accepted. Ie reply to Mr Donlop, The Chaieman said the country districts *ere keeping up well the registration of uogs, bat there was a falling off in the suburban road districts. Letters were read from the Avon Road .Board re Charitable- Aid rate, and the conwaet for clearing the river Styx. A request ■*a» also made for a grant of £200 towards «ie_cGßt of forming and metalling a portion ot laraer's read, which was the main road fcom the North to New Brighton. it was resolved that £150 be granted wwards the work of forming the above
