MR CADMAN AT MAORI KAIK.
(PBES3 ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) DU2JEDIN, December a The Hon. A. J. Cadman, Native Minister, visited the Kaik at Otago Heads to-day, where he was hospitably received. The occasion was a notable one, aa, though the late Mr Sheehan onca visited the Kaik, he did so unofficially, and this wae the first time a Native Minister had paid aa. official visit. After greeting, the question of Native claims for the *' tenths" of land comprised in the Otago block and for the Dunedin boat reserve in Princes street or its value, the claim amounting in all to considerably over £1,000,000, was opened. The claim is being prosecuted by Mr T. R. Ellison, solicitor, of Wellington, and MrR. Carrick, agent. The Minister let tne meeting clearly under* stand that he considered the Natives had no claim either in respect of the tenths or of the boat reserve. He subsequently discussed with them the subject of making provision for the landless. Three pieces of land have been set apart in the hope of meeting eases. One is a block of 40,000 acres below Waiau, Southland, another comprises seven to eight thousand «cres of the Xautattkau bush, Catling, and the third is near Lake Wanaka.
