Sib,— Knowing that you take an interest in any genuine case of distress, I beg to call your readers' attention so that the charitable disposed may be induced to nelp in the case I am about to relate. About twelvemonths agoa wharf labourer, Louis Gousemott by name, met with an accident, which has prevented him from work; he /Could get no compensation, a special jury deciding his employers were not liable. He is a married man with a large family, none of them able to earn anything, and the wife in delicate health (as the saying is, one trouble never comes alone). His was one of the unfortunate families that got burnt out on Friday last, losing everything they had in the shape of furniture and bedding, so that their case is pitiful, they being dependent on the neighbours for shelter. Thanking you in aaticipatioa—l am, &c, ts. Lyttelton, May 31st.
