THE WHYTE-BAGOT CASE.

WELLINGTON, May 31.

The charge against Hon. J. B. Why to and Geo. N. Bagot, Receiver of Land Revenue, arising -out of alleged irregularities in the Land Department, alleges that they "At divers times in the years 1887 1888 1889 1890 and 1891 at Wellington unlawfully fraudulently wickedly did conspire combine confederate and agree together to cheat and defraud her Majesty the Queen of divers large sums of money bankers cheques and other valuable securities which should thereafter have been received and taken into possession for and on account of her Majesty by the said George N. Bagot as Receiver of Land Revenue at Wellington by unlawfully embezzling appropriating and converting to their own use divers sums of money bankers' cheques and other valuable securities which should have been so received as ■' aforesaid by the said George N. Bagot as such Receiver of Land Revenue as aforesaid being then and there employed in the public service of her Majesty and that in pursuance of the said conspiracy combination confederation and agreement the said J. B. Why te and George N. Bagot i did unlawfully receive appropriate and obtain the following moneys to wit on the ,27th April 1889 the sum of £240 on 9th May 1889 the sum of £30 on 10th August 1889 thosumof £30 on 31afc August 1889 the sum ot £30 on 6th November 1889 the sum of £664 Hβ 9d on 22nd March 1890 the sum ot £30 and on 24th January 1891 the sum of £30 and on other days and times divers other sums of money by unlawfully embezzling appropriating and converting to, their use the same moneys such moneys haying been received and taken into possession by the said Geo. N. Bagot as such receiver as aforesaid for and on account of her Majesty." Being an indictable offence the case ia fixed for hearing on June 7th, on which day Bagot, who is separately charged with embezzlement, comes up on remand.
