NORTH CANTERBURY STEEPLECHASE CLUB.
The annual meeting of the North Canterbury Steeplechase Club was held at the Crown Hotel,■ Amberley, on Monday afternoon. Present—Messrs Courage (in the chair), Slarky. J. P. White, Greenwood, Lewton, S. Coleman, R. J. Paraona, Darapier-Crosslev, F. Lance, T. McDonald, G. Mcßae, Wells, Sain, MuSgrove, Hyne, W. S. Smith, T. McNaughtand Secretary. Mr McNaught, the Treasurer, declared last .year's balance-sheet, which showed the financial position of theHllub was in a satisfactory btate, being absut the same as last year. Mr Courage said he was willing to give one Club'the.use of his gfouuas again to be rtiu over 5 , on the Seadown estate, and hoped the entries Would fill up better than last year. The date for the Steeplechase Meeting for thia year was fixed for Thursday, 25th August. The same officials were appointed as last year. The programme, which will appear shortly, has been, slightly altered, one of the alterations being that the Hunters' Plate has been confined to horses the bona fide property of members of the Brackenfield Hunt Clab. Another alteration is that a clause in the Farmers' Steeplechase Handicap—"Open to all horses chat have not woo jfi2o or over of advertised money"—be struck out.
An Auckland Press Association telegram says that; the acceptance of 60 to ID against Couranto to-day had the effect of sending him to the position of first favourite for she Bardic Race, and the besc price about him vow for the double is 15 to 1. Rae'e representative, Lonely, is reported to be in excellent condition.
