THE EKETAHUNA MURDER.

MASTERTON, February 13. Yesterday afternoon Constable Roache arrested two men at work grass-seeding on the Mangaone Valley Road, on the charge of murdering Dalton. One is named Charles Harrison (a Russian Fin) and the other Charles Smith (a German). Both expressed surprise at the arrest, but made no statement beyond saying they had been in Eketahuna on the previous night to procure tobacco.
Both men were seen in company with the* deceased during the evening, and left the Hotel with him about midnight. A settler aftet wards noticed two men wrestling in the street, one of whom he thinks • was deceased. Several knives were fonnd in the swags of the accused, bat neither on them nor on their clothing could be found any traces of blood. Deceased had money in his possession when leaving the hotel at midnight, but when discovered in the morning he had only an empty purse in. his pocket. Detective Herbert and Constable Roache are making a searching investigation. The inquest will be commenced this afternoon, but will probably be adjourned on the application of the police.
