WELLINGTON, February 10. lhe amount ot property lax collected up to February bth tins year wan £236,500, as against £236,000 to the eaine day in !««t year. The Treasurer's estimate is and the Department fully expoct it to bo exceeded. The last day of payment to escape the penalty is the 18ih inst., and the Department proceed ugaiiist defaulters at the end of the month.
It is believed that Thos. Sprugea, aged eighteen, a native of Clmstclmrch, has becu drowned in the Tiraumea, a river in the Ekatahuna district. He left tho station oa the 6th for Woodlands, and was to call at Waterfalls, but nothing more has been heard of him, though his dog was found on thu riverbauk.
OAMARU, February 10. The Governor passed through at noon by special train. There was absolutely no demonstration by the few people who aisembled on the platform.
DUNEDItf, February 10. A valuable discovery of cinnabar in Bruce county has been reported. The Rev. Mr York has resigned tho curacy of St. Paul's, and proceeds to England. lhe Governor and Postmaster-General left by special train for Uhristehurcli at eight o'clock this morning.
