UNITED METHODIST FREE CHURCH.

The annual, district meeting of this Church was commenced in their church at Rangiora oh Thursday 'afternoon.- 'The following circuits were represented, viz., Addington, Auckland, Christchurch, Napier and Waipawa, Oxford, Rangiora, .Reefton j Richmond, Wellington, Westport and Wodville. There were twenty-seven gentlemen present, including the Connexional representative, five others being delayed in Christchurch. . - T The Rev. J. Worboys, of Reefton, was elected Chairman, and the -Rev. A. Peters, of Rangiora, Secretary j .Sub-secre-taries, the Revs. Hounsell and Hosking. On the completion of the reading of the certificates of representatives, it was resolved that in future circuits must. always name persons appointed, and alternative representatives in case of failure before sending certificates. It was resolved to send greetings to the Primitive Methodist Conference sitting in Christchurch. The future sittings of the meeting were fixed as follows:—9.3o a.m. to 12.30 and 2 p.m. till 5.30. The election of Stationary and Finance Committees was postponed till Friday morning session, in consequence of the nonarrival of the North Island representatives. . ;.. ,- .j-. ■. , Inquiry into ministerial character and probationers' examinations was set down for Saturday morning. That session will be held with closed doors. The remainder of the session was spent in hearing read the minutes of last district meeting, and an adjournment was then made to tbe tea and public meeting. In connection with the election of Chairman, it is worthy of note, that while the office is open to laymen and ministers alike, the district has never been able to find a layman willing to stand for election, and this year has proved no exception to the rule.
