The Legislative Council hare passed a motion requesting the Government) to introduce a Bill dealing with gambling and the use made of the Post Office to carry on sweeps. THE WRECK OF THE FIJI. Melbourne, September 11.
The statement of Captain Vickera of the illfaced barque Fiji that when he left the vessel Arthur Wilkinson, who swam off from the shore to assist ine sailors, was dead is apparently incorrect, as when the body was found the hands were tightly clutching a straw and other things, indicating a final straggle when the vessel broke ap.
