ROAD BOARDS.

TEMPLETON.

The monthly meeting of this Board was held at the Road Board office, Yaldhuret, on Monday, the 7th inst. Present—Messrs Carpenter (Chairman), Bailey, Taylor, Marsh and Carr. Correspondence was read—From the Selwyn County Council, in reply, stating that the funds at its disposal to the creflit of this Board were not sufficient to allow of a special grant of £150 being made for expenditure on main roads in this district. Prom the same, enclosing copy of resolutions passed at a meeting of suburban Road Boards recently held, which had been submitted to the Council for its consideration. The Chairman stated he had attended the meeting in question and recorded his vote in accordance with the opinion of this Board, expressed at its last meeting, and that the only resolution which the Board was in favor of was thrown out. After some discussion, the Clerk was directed, in reply to the communication from the Council to state that this Board disapproves of the resolutions passed, and also that the member for their riding be acquainted with the Board's decision. From Mr C. L. Davis, desiring to know if the Board had any objection to an open crossing being formed on Shand's road at Harding's corner in lieu of the existing pipe culvert for water-race purposes. The Surveyor was instructed to inspect the site and, subject to nis approval, the proposal be recommended, the work to be completed to his satisfaction. The offers of Mr A. Kerrison for renting Reserve 320 for a term of five years at 2s 6d per acre, and that of Mr R. Reid at the same price for Reserve 324 were accepted. The Surveyor's report was read and the following instructions were issued :—That tenders be invited for forming part of Robinson's road, returnable next Board day. That notice to clear gorse from roads be served in several instances. Accounts amounting to £79 9s 6d were passed and the meeting adjourned.
