KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting was held on Tuesday evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr Blakeley), Crs. Weston, Butt, Doubleday, Brighting, Anderson, Bugg, and Lissaman. Leave was granted to Crs. Fraser and Stanton. Letters were read—From the Hospital Board, for moiety of sum due be paid. It was decided to pay £12. From Mr A. S. Fisher, to have name placed on rate roll. Agreed to. From Railway Engi neer, stating thirty casks of cement had been forwarded for sump at railway station. From Audit Office, for amount of rates overdue, which Cr. Butt said was a good reminder to the Finance Committee that the rates should be paid. The Clerk reported completion of delivery of 500 yards of shingle. Shingle was required for Hilton, Cookson, Charles, Sewell, Cass, Jones, Beswick, Fuller' and Raven streets—a total of 852 yards. The footpath for Cass street to Beach road on North road required reforming. Feldwick floodgate required repairs. The painting of the morgue and Fire Brigade stations was required. Cr. Butt moved—"That 300 yards of shingle be obtained, as the quantity named in the report was more than the Council could afford." Carried. Cr. Weston, Chairman Finance Committee, read the report, which stated the receipts were £18 14s 6d. The overdraft in the general account was £281 12s 2d. The credit in loan account was £145 17s 2d. Accounts, £90 15s, were passed for payment. The Sanitary Committee reported on the drain through the right-of-way at the Pier Hotel Cr. Butt moved—"That the Council ascertain cost of drain to north side of Charles street, and how far the persons interested wonld contribute to making the drain to Sewell street." Cr. Weston seconded. Crs. Brighting and Bugg advocated the construction of a drain down Cookson street to outfall sewer of Charles street. The Council then adjourned.
