LYTTELTON.
Tuesday, Jtob 2. (Before H, Allwright and J. B. Milflom, Esqa/s, J.P.'s.) Larceny.—Edward K. Coates, a seaman from the barque Warwickshire, was charged with the larceny of an overcoat, value £2. the property Of J. T. Brice. Accused pleadefl Not Guilty. Mr Brice stated that the--e6at had been hangingoutside his premises in London street. He missed it at tea time, and next saw it while being worn by the accused. There had been a cape on it which was now missing. Constable Bleasel deposed to arresting the accused last evening. He was wearing the overcoat at the time, and stated that he had bought it in Adelaide, but afterwards admitted having received it from his mate. In answer to the charge accused stated that he had been drinking, and had no clear recollection of how he came by the coat. The Bench considered tho case, and sentenced the accused to one month's imprisonment.
