TROUBLE IN THE ROYAL ARTILLERY.
The Press Association states that tha 34th Battery, Southern Dlvison, Boyal Artillery, stationed at Fort Grange, Portsmouth, broke out into open mutiny on Saturday, April 19th. For some time tho men have complained of being overdrilled, and as their representations were* it is seated, unheeded, they refused on Saturday to go on parade when the bugle sounded the assemble. Instead of obey* ing the call, they appeared on the barrack square in a most excited state, the officers and non-commissioned officers being unable to keep them under control. Presently Colonel Younger, 8.A., arrived, and representing to tnein the foolishness of their conduct, induced the men to fall in. In the meantime General Geary, commanding the Boyal Artillery, Southern District, was telegraphed for, and on hia arrival he at once ordered the arrest of the oldest soldiers in each company, signed the warrant for their trial by court-mar-tial, aud took the battery off the duty Hit. The military authorities took stops to keep the affair secret, and the troops in the nearest forts knew nothing of the occurrence until Sunday. The men have since expressed their regret at having so improperly given vent to their feelings, and nave been on parade as usual. The breach of military discipline, however, will most likely be investigated by a court-martial.
