THE R.M.S. IONIC

Mr P. Cunningham received a cable message from London yesterday dealing with various business - matters. It makes no reference to the lonic, but would, he thinks, have undoubtedly the fact had that vessel not been reported from Rio.

(F_E3S ASSOCtATIOK tEt_>__ff.) WELLINGTON, June 2. The lonic is.nine days;,overdue on the passage to Rio Joneiro, but very little anxiety is felt for her safety, as it occasionally happens the arrival of steamers at Bio is not cabled. It is thought that the vessel may have experienced heavy adverse gales off the Falkland Islands, and has been delayed in consequence. Messrs Levin and Co., the local agents for the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company cabled to London- a few days ago, asking for tidings of the steamer, but receiving no reply cabled again yesterday afternoon.
