TO THB EDITOR OF THE PHESS.
Biß,—l enclosed the following statement, which was giveil-me for publication by Mr Barnett, a; chemist of this town, and Dr. Lomax-Smith's "best authority." Mr Barnett assures mc that there was no intentional misstatemeht on his part, and that his original version of .the incident was that I had refused the .lymph on account of the excessive price.. Surely very different from the published version, "he tried to get it and failed." —Yours, &c, E. Jennings. Avon House, Christchurch. Sir,—ln reference to the statement I made to Dr. Loioax-Smith that you had endeavored to obtain' Koch's lymph and had failed, I was under the impressionist. That when you told mc you had received a quotation from an Auckland firm relative to the lymph, it was in answer to a demand from you for the same. 2nd. That you had refused the lymph on account of the high price asked. I did not know that that telegram partook of the nature of a commercial circular, having been sent to several medical practitioners, customers of the firm in question, and I now remember that you coupled your refusal of the lymph with , the expression that you had no wish to commit manslaughter. The above was all that transpired between us on this subject,' and was the only conversation we held on the matter.—Yours, &c,
W. Babnett. 4 Victoria street, Christchurch, May 26th, 1891.
