ROAD BOARDS.

SPRINGS.

The ordinary meeting of the Board was Jield on Thursday, the 21st May. Present— Mesars Pannett, Murray, Chamberlain and Quayle. The Clerk read the declaration of the Returning Officer, to the effect that Messrs Murray, Pannett and Quayle were elected members of the Board at the election on 7th inst. Mr J. A. Pannett was unanimously elected Chairman for the ensuing year. Correspondence was received from Selwyn County Council with reference to Charitable Aid rate id in .£. Resolved, that the matter be considered when striking general rate, F. C- Murray, callingattention of Board to drain throngh his property. Mr Boyle interviewed the Board with reference to reserve 2720, and asked that he be allowed to plough and sow it with grass. Consideration was deferred until Mr Lord is present. Police department, with reference to dog registration. Selwyn County Council, with reference to same, and notifying that the present arrangements would cease at the end of the. month. Resolved \ that the Surveyor have the drain \ from Keast's into the LI river cleared, also part of the Leeston road drain deepened. Surveyor's report was* read. Resolved—" That cleaning Tod's Creek be let to F. Libeau at the same amount as the cost to the Board by day labor; that notice boards be placed on Silvester's bridge ; that tenders be invited for repairs to Lincoln bridge; that Mr Quayle and the surveyor make a further inspection, and have the necessary repairs to road from Bennett's to Lake done; that Collins's and Sergeant's drain be cleaned the same length ac in previous years, but the Board do not entertain the application for cleaning drain on the north side of Gooderiek's road; that the Board do not consider the work on the Lincoln boundary road asked for by Wo. Bainey necessary; that some repairs be made to the Poundkeeper's house." On the motion of Mr Chamberlain, seconded by Mr Quayle, the Chairman and Mr Murray were appointed to sign cheques for the ensuing year. Resolved—That all rates unpaid on Ist June be sued for ; that poisoned wheat be distributed as required; that a special meeting be held on Friday, the 29th uwt., at 7.30 pan., to rescind resolution sof the 24th February, 189 L Accounts amounting to £62 18s 14 were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
