PRODUCE, &c.

The following Is the Cobit Excbanob report (per N. P. Meyers, Secretary) for week ending Friday, May 22nd, 1891 :— Since our last report we have to note a better tone in the English and Continental wheat market, and locally our last week's quotations have been fully maintained. Oats remain quiet, with only a local inquiry, and the same remark applies to barley. Beans and peas are steady at our quotations, but grass seeds are .easy, it being out of season. Potatoes have thoroughly collapsed, aud are difficult to place at any figure. Thia Is chiefly on account of the sudden fall in Sydney prices, which have gone down to the unprecedentedly low figure of £2. This, we think, however, will only be momentary, and we hope to be able within the next few weeks to report more favorably with' respect to the "tater." Dairy produce remains firm, with an active inquiry for good makes.

Quotations are as follows :—

The New Zealand Farmers' COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATION OF CANTERBURY Limited, report as follows for week ending May 23rd :— Wheat—A rather better feeling has been apparent in the market during the week, chiefly due to the limited quantity offering. Prime Tuscan sells at 4s, 4s Id, velvet 4., and Hunter's 3s lid. Oats— I'he firmness referred to in our last continues, although the export inquiry has not responded. The increased consumption in the country induces confidence amongst growers, who are aa a rule standing Off the market. Prime ■**_»» ,g Is 9d, short feed lsßd, Is 9d, duns Is Bd, Danish Is 7d.

Barley—The business passing is nominal, and at late rates.
