THE WEATHER.
Heavy showers of rain and hail fell during Wednesday night, but the weather yesterday was comparatively fine. The Port hiHs and those* on the Peninsula were capped with snow, which also fell on the. plains to a. slight extent. During Wednesday night a heavy fall of snow took place on the ranges, which conld be seen during the day to be covered. Mounts Grey and Torlesse and the Hurnnui Saddle were a -perfect picture when the Bun rose yesterday mornmg. ; '.V *' Our Oxford correspondent writes :---On Wednesday we had threatening clouds from the S. W. in the early morning, and then a drizzle which increased to a steady downgmr at 1 o'clock, contrauing till the eveng, and culminating in a steady fall of snow. It is now 11 o'clock, and the snow continues, and is coating the ground thickly. At Kirwee (says our correspondent) rain commenced to fall steadily at 9a. m., and rained up till 5.30 p.m., when snow started to fall, and this (Thursday) moniing the country is completely covered with a thin coating of snow. The weather has cleared up.
