PROPOSED SETTLEMENT IN* URUGUAY.

St. Petersburg, May 20. Thousands of Russian Jews are desirous of adopting the' Lutheran religion. An edict issued by the Czar forbids Jews to make a confession of faith until the year's probation has expired.
It is Russian subjects, and not Jews, who are being deported to Siberia. A third of the 15,000 are prisoners, the remainder, being their wives and families, who are accompanying them.

London, May 21. Baron Hirsch has purchased a tract of land in Uruguay, South America, for the purpose of settlement by the Jews who have been expelled from Russia. The Government have granted favorable privileges to the Jews taking up the land, aud Baron Hirsch has despatched an engineer to make all preparations for their arrival.
