POSTAGE STAMPS.

TO THB KDITOB OF THS PBKSS. Sib, —As the Postal Department do not seem to have heeded the late outcry about the deficiency of gum on the postage stamps issued by them, perhaps one of the members for Christchurch would, in the interests of a long-suffering public, get a sum placed on the estimates for procuring a reasonable supply of gum arabic for the Government shortly. At present they seem to detest anything in the shape of cohesion, even on letters. Meanwhile they might use their powerful influence to have a reasonable supply of safety pins issued with the stamps by all post masters, so that the aforesaid stamps may at least be secured to our letters, as it is rather conducive to an unusual flow of eloquence to see them tumble off instantly, as they do at present.— Yours, &c., Ajm-GuMßua. Sydenham, May 18th.
