BAND ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the Executive of the New Zealand Brass Band Association was held at the Wellington Hotel on Saturday evening last. Apologies were received from Messrs Searell and McCullough. A large amount of correspondence was dealt with, and the Secretary was instructed to reply thereto, also to forward the amended rules to bands who have not yet joined the Association. A suggestion from the City Band, Invercargill, re inserting an additional rule, was postponed till a future meeting. Correspondence from Dunedin was read, re the coming contest, which was of a highly satisfactory nature, a strong and energetic Committee being appointed to arrange for the carrying out of the maiden contest under the Association rules. Mr A. A. George, of Hawke's Bay, wrote on the question of reviving the musical paper; and the Secretary of the Garrison Band, Wellington, re fixing date of contest. It waa agreed to appoint a SubCommittee to make arrangements for the publication of a musical paper, to bring up a report to the next meeting of the Executive. An application from the Nelson Fire Brigade Band for information was received and rules, &c., forwarded. It was decided that the Sub-Committee should canvass the affiliated bands and solicit support for the proposed paper, and should they receive a fair share of support the desired object would soon be attained. Unfortunately, bandsmen in New Zealand have no recognised organ, and the efforts of the {Association to carry out the wish of distant bands is worthy of encouragement. It was stated that the object of the paper was not to confine it to band matters only, but to report all matters of interest to musicians. There being rather more than seventy-four bands in the colony, the Executive thought they had a right to be confident of ultimate success. After a vote of thanks to Mr Mcintosh for presiding, the meeting adjourned.
