-Mb D. Thomas reports upon the Live Stock Market in the Ashburton district for the week ending May 15th, as "follows, viz.:—On Tuesday, at the Tinwald Yards, the usual weekly sale of live stock was held. There was again a large catalogue of sheep, one or two large lines of merinos coming forward swelling the entry. The attendance of farmers and others Interested was a large one, most of them keen to do business, and the result was, as far as I am concerned, a total ■clearance of my entries folly 10 per cent, in advance of those of last week. The totals yarded for the day were 9371 sheep, 11 rams, 30 head of cattle, and 148 pigs, of which my entry consisted of 300b' sheep, 2 rains, 10 head of cattle, and 105 pigs. In sheep my principal sales were—33 fat crossbred ewes, Sa 9d; oO fat; crossbred ewes, 7s 9d ; 20 fat two-tooths, lis 6d j 27 crossbred ewes, 9s 6d; 17 mixed crossbreds, 7s 3d; 80 merino ewes, 4s 4a; 70 tat crossbred ewes, 10s Id; 36 fat merino wethers, 7s 8d; 94 fat merino ewes, 5s Sd; 46 do, ds 6d; 96 crossbred ewes, 8s 4d ; 20 fac merino ewes, ss; 17 crossbred lambs7s od; 17 merino ewes, 5s ; 89 cull merino ewes, ls 9d; 53 crossbred ewes, 8s Id; 60 fat merino ewes, os 7d ; 85 crossbred lambs, 10s; 150 crossbred ewes, 9a IOd; 98 crossbred two-tooths, lis Hd; 111 old merino ewes, *_»; 113 crossbred ewes in lamb, 8s : 286 crossbred ewes in lamb, 9s 9d; 451 old merino ewes, 2s 3d ; 359 crossbred lambs, 7s; 93 call lambs, 5s Id; 275 first-cross ewes full and broken ; 161 crossbred lambs, &c. In cattle I sold 10 young heifers and steers mixed at 33s eacb. In pigs I sold 1 at 51s, aud 24 at 24s bd each, and turned oat a lot unsold, the major portion of which were trucked to Christchurch and realised less than I could have got for them here. <9n Friday I held my fortnightly sales of sheepskins, hides, lat, Ac. There was a good attendance of fellmongers, and a considerable rise in values took place. My catalogue consisted of 754 sheepskins, 2 bai:s fac, aud 11 hides. Butchers' best crossbred skins made 4s, 4s Id, to 4s Sd each; second quality, 2s lOd, 3s 3d, 3s 6d, to 3s lid eacb ; best merino, 3s, 3s 3d, to 3s Ud ; second quality, 2s to 2s lid ; smaller skins both crossbreds and merinos, 1* 3d to ls lOd ; pelts, 2d to Sd each ; rough fat, Lid ; hides, lid per lb. PROPERTY SALE. Messrs Tonks, Norton and Co. report having sold at auction this day a small property at Opawa for ±>110. Two other properties were oiTered but failed to meet the owners' reserve. LAND SALE. On Saturday Mb T. Bullock:, of Ashburton, offered at auction tiie balance of MrsMcLean'sland, situated on Smith'!! and Jones' roads, near the back of the Ashburton Saleyards. There was a good attendance of buyers and the biddings were brisk. With one exception, all the lots offered i sold readily at prices varying f ruin £_J to £24, £27, £33, aud £34 per acre, tha areas varying froui free, rive, seven, nine, eleven, and t aty-five acres, the last mentioned tic- realising £20 per acre.. The section _.'.t sold at auction waa disposed of private"- at the close of the sale. The total offered was SO acres, which realised -_21_7 ss. During the past two months Mr Bullock has sold _ v_iy large amount of landed propercy at niguiy encouraging figures.
