MARKET REPORTS.

PRODUCE, &c.

The following is the Cork Exchansb report (per N. P. Meyer*, Secretary) for week ending Friday, May loth, 1891 :— Late London cables show an inactivity in the wheat market, but locally we have not experienced any alterations in values during the past week. The quantity offering now is small, and prices are likely to remain at about current rates. Up to the present we have had but little enquiry from Australia, which indicates that the late published statistics are not to be altogether relied upon. Oats have a local enquiry for prime milling and good short feed, but prices do nob seem to improve. Barley is still quiet at our quotations, maltsters being fully stocked for the winter. Potatoes have suffered a relapse owing to the fall in values in Sydney, and to-day buyers are only offering 22s Od at country stations. Business is consequently restricted, growers preferring to pic than accept present prices. Quotations are as follows :— Wheat—Prime milling Tuscan 4s to 4s Id, pearl 3s lid to4s, Huutor's white 3 8 10d to 3s lid, second quality 3s 6d to 3s 9d, chick wheat 3s to 3s 3d. Oats—Primesheavy milling Is 8d to Is 9d, shore feed Is 7d, inferior Is 4d to Is 6d. Barley—Prime malting 3s to 3s 3d, seconds 2a 6d to 2s 9d. Beans—2s 9d. Peas—Blue Prasslana 3s, feed sorts 2s 6d to 2s 9d. Grass Seed — Machine-dressed rye ss, farmers' 3s 6d to 4s, cocksfoot 3&d to 5Jd. Potatoes — Nominally 25a ac country stations. Dairy Produce—Factory butter 8d to 9d, farmers' 7d ; cheese, loaf, 4£d; larger sizes, 3|d to 4d. The above prices are those paid to farmers for delivery f.o.b. at Lyttelton, sacks 6s 6d per dozen. The Nbw Zealand Loan and Mkroantile Agbnot Company, Limited, report on the grain and produce markets as follows for week ending 16th May, 1891:— Wool—Until the opening of the next London series on. 9th June, there is little probability of I*&*vLxis "■'"y*'-" 1 "g: to report "WOrCIIT Ql BOte, A lew balei continue to UKiWjL ****** - : : come in at the weekly auctions, and meet I a ready sale at full values. Tallow and Pat—Quotations unchanged. Good local demand.

Bides —No alteration in. values. Wβ #re appointed agents lor Borrows' patent tannage, which we flnd is mack appreciated by the trade. Sheepskins-Supplies this week were quite up to the average, with the usual attendance of fellmongers and others. Competition was keen, and prices very satisfactory. We submitted a large catalogcue of dry and green steins, and toppe d the market for the season with the former at up to 7s 3d for Mo ant White double fleeces. For butchers' beat crossbreds we obtained 4s, 4s 3d, 4s 10d, ss, 5s 7d, and up to 6s and 6s 2d for a few assorted skins; ordinary sorts, 2s to 3s 2d ; best merinos, 3a id to 39 10d; ordinary, 23 to 2s 104. Lambskins were not so much in demand ; values ranged from 2s to 3s 9d apiece. Wheat—The easier tone displayed in the markets of the Old Country has caused offerings to be made more freely here. The local market is decidedly quieter, and buyers are not disposed to advance upon present quotations: in fact, there is a feeling that a further decline is not improbable in face of the improved crop prospects in other places. Wβ quote today—Tuscan 4s, Pearl 3s 10d, 3s lid, Hunter's 3s 10d, f .0.b., sacks extra. Oata—The increased inquiry for beet descriptions still continues, but secondary and inferior parcels are difficult of sale. Prices are without alteration. Prime milling Is Bd, heavy feed Is7d, ordinary Is 4d to Is 6d per bushel, to.b., sacks extra. ' Barley—There is no improvement to report in this market. We quote present values as follows:—Best samples medium 2s 9d to 3s, secondary and feed Is 9d to 2s 6d per bushel, ex store, sacks extra. Beans—2s 6d to 2s 8d per bushel, to.b., sacks extra. Potatoes—Blue Derwents and kidneys are pressed on the market at 20s to 22s od per ton at country stations, but buyers are not operating freely. Dairy Produce—Without alteration. Landed Property—There is a good, active enquiry for handy-sized farms in convenient localities. During, the week we have sold at auction Mr Simon Forttyth's farm of 154 acres good heavy land at Taumutu, near Lake Ellesmere, at £20 per acre, the purchaser being Mr Alex. McLachlan, of Doyleston. We also offered the Winterslow Bun, near Ashburton, comprising 30,000 acres, leased from the Crown, with 9000 to 10,000 sheep, for which we were bid £4000. This, however, did not come up to owner's idea of value, and the property was withdrawn; but having had more than one enquiry for it since, we hope soon to record a sale.

J. B. King and Co. report for the week a very heavy supply of live stock in their saleyards. Large quantities of grain, produce, and general merchandise have also gone through our hands. The week's business evidences a better state of things. Live stock has realised to advantage, and sales in grain, produce, and general merchandise nave been heavier. Prices, however, in some few instances were nob what we would like to see them, notwithstanding that full market value has been obtained. The supply of poultry keeps up surprisingly well. All available pens were again filled, and the character of the birds was much better than at the previous market, and prices were accordingly good. Fig 9 were also penned in large numbers. Every pen was well filled, ana prices were better than they have been for some weeks past. Horses and dairy cattle were yarded in the usual numbers, and a fair proportion of them sold. They call for no special remarks. Live stock quotations as follows :—Hens 2s to 5s 9d per pair, roosters 2s to 4s, and for some specially good lines 5s 3d to 9s 3d per pair was obtained, fowls Is 9d to 6s per pair, ducks 3s to 6s per pair, geese 3s 9d to 6a per pair, turkeys, hens, 6a per pair, pigeons Iβ to •2s per pair.
