The Kiel Observatory intimates that a. bright comet: ixt the position, of Barnard's comet; is visible in &lie nil id io oil . CONFESSION OF MURDER. Melbourne, May 12. A. prisoner serving a sentence in Pentr-idge, h&9 confessed that iio murdered Mrs Jubb, the victim of the Parliament Place tragedy. He saye he had burglariously entered the house OCCUpied "OJ Mrs Jubb and being surprised before he couU carry out bis designs he shot Mrs Jubb. A man named Turner, who boarded in the house, was arrested on the charge of committing the crime, but when ihe case came before the Supreme Court the jury acquitted him. The prisouer's story is believed to be a fabrication for the purpose of gaining notoriety. Received May 13th. 12.45 a-m. SCENE AT A POLITICAL MEETING. Sydkit, May 12. The Hon. Wm. McMillan attempted to address the electors thie evening, chiefly in reply to speeches delivered by the opponents of federation. A most disgraceful scene took place, and free fights were the feature of the eveniug. Mr McMillan was eventually compelled to withdraw, and handed his speech to the Press representatives for publication. The disturbance was evidently organised beforehand.
