Complete Railway returns for ihe financial year show the net profit to be £421,500, or a shade over 3 per cent. on the cost of constructing the opened lines. In calculating the revenue, the free carriage of maiis, volunteers, &c, is not taken into account. The profit shows an increase of £19,500 over the Treasurer's estimate.

The Minister of Public Works leaves for Auckland on Monday.
