THE SANITARY, CONDITION OF SYDENHAM.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir,—ln reference to recent paragraphs in your paper, reporting seven cases ot typhoid fever from Sydenuain under treat-* rnenc at the Ho*pical, implying tbat the cases were the outcome of defective sanitary arrangements, I have to say that inquiries made immediately upon tbe cases being first reported on Tuesday last, show that four out of the seven cases originated with persons who contracted the disease on the Peninsula; another case, the doctor who had charge of the patient says, was the development. ot a number of ailments for which he had at* tended the patieut a long time, and could not be attributed to defective sanitation. One case was a boy attending -school, and the cause of his attack has not yet been traced.
In .the only remaining case, the pollution of the water from che artesian well through defective arraugements made for pumping, is the only cause that can be traced. »
The last-mentioned case is the only one that our Inspector thinks can be attributed to defective sanitary arrangements.—Yours, oca, Chas. Allison, Just., Town Clerk.
