Captain Edwin states that the hum. cane reported by the Wainui travelled in 8 South-south-west until about fl p.m. on the 22nd nit., when it ourved te the South-east, being then about 160 miles to the eastward of the East Cape. It passed north of the Chatham Islands, where it has probably caused heavy easterly gftl«8» with heavy rain and unusually heavy sea. The general route taken by these storms has been ioUowed in this instance, bnt* they sometimes come much closer ta Vto oast.
