Attention is being dra *n ti> the fact that from time to time complaints are made by British mastete and owners trading between the Australian colonies and New Zealand of the. unfair competition of foreign craft v/ith them in the carrying trade. Foreign vessels running from Kaipara and elsew here to Australia conveying timber are end to carry excessive deck loads in addition to the full freighting under hate acs, and this practice, besides being risky, is also complained of as unfair to British vessels, which most have the PlimsolTs mark. Dr. Forbes* of 'i'auranga, has been appointed Medical Oifioer at Tongn by the Government;., Tue Auckland 'fiacing Club have decided n<idly to enforce Bole No. 20, which .prohibits o fraers, trainers and jockeys from taking part at unregistered trotting or pony race meetings.
