The attention of the Members and the General Public is called to some of the special features connected with this Society, which is the Oldest Colonia Institution of its kind, having been leatablished in the year 1819 The results of the business for the Forty-first Year, ending 31st December, 89, may be summarised as under :— FIRST—The number of the New Policies issued was 11,664SECOND—The New Assurance Business effected was for L 3,679,459, THKID—The New Annual Premium Income amounted to 1(121,800, FOURTH—The net increase to the business, after allowing for loss of income from terminated policies, was represented by 7028 Policies, assuring 12,109,199. "FDTTH —The operations of the year raised the aunnal income of the Society from LL512,28Q to L1,625,185b an increase in twelve months ot L 112,905. SIXTH—The Accumulated Fund was increased during the year by the sum of L 742.311, equal to 71 per cent, of the gross premium re. ceived. SEVENTH—The deaths among lives assured were 649 under 735 policies, causing claims upon the Society amounting to 1<299.602, irrespective of Bonos additions, while the number expected according to the Tablee used in estimating the liabilities would have been 1143 for an amount of L 438,976, the mor tality experience beiug thus extremely favorable. EIGHTH—The receipts from interest and rents were L 516,832, an amount exceeding the sum paid for the claims by L 138.952. NINTH—The expenses of Management were only 9.5 per cent, of the tocal receipts. TENTH—The cash surplus divided for the year 1889 was L 426,494« being at the rate of 415 per ceut. on the premiums received. The operations of the Society during the forty-one years of its existence may be summarised as under:— It has ' issued 141,907 policies, assuring L49,417,71i It has paid to the representatives of deceased members over L 4,000,000 in satisfaction of death uud matured claims. It has divided among the members cash bonuses aggregating over L 4,000,000, yielding reversionary additions of over L 8,000,000.
