ROAD BOARDS.
ELLESMERE. The ordinary meeting of the above Board was hold in the Board's office, Leeecon, on March Znd. Present—Messrs U-. C vVaby (Chairman), M. Jones, J. Kenuie, Jti. Locknead, aud W. Waisou. The following correspondence read and dealt wich:—From T. W. Muwson, complaining of the charge made against him for hid share of drainage on the Brookside road, l'he Board uecided taac no rebate could be made, and the con ribut/iou must oe paid at once. Charitable Aid Board, re assistance Co Airs b\ Price, of oouthbridge. Tne Chairman stated that he had* recommended the case as one meriting support. Action approved of. .Property Tax Department, re subsidy under mc Native Laud Act. The Clerk was instructed to attend to the matter. From Mr Kollo, claiming the sum of SO* for damage done to nis crops througn the Board entering the shingle pit. The Board agreed to pay this amount. From Jas. Carston, covering statement of accounts for the Lees ton pound, and offering to take the pound on the usual terms. In was agreed to let Air Oarston the pound on the usual Lerins. Selwyn County Council, advising that a voucher for &25 had been passed in favor of the Board for tne purpose of opening up Boggy Creek. It was resolved that the opening up of Boggy Creek be commenced at once. The Overseer was directed to prepare an; agreement for Mrs Fay's signature, undertattiug to keep the creek clear in future, it was also agreed to give all persona notice, whose laud fronts on the Boggy Creek, that their portion of the creett, in ' accordance with the original agreement, must,be promptly attended to. FcuDi Mr S. Forsytn, covering plans of diversion of road through his property. The plans were approved aud received. Personal applications — Air W. Bowis, asKing that Coilett's road should be opened up jo give an outlet to the Lower Lake road. The Overseer was instructed to arrauge this matter, aud call for tenders on the 13th inst. "The Overseer was instructed to make enquiries among the occupiers of land on tne Tramway road, Leeston, and if possible to let that portion recently cleared of gorse. The following tender was accepted for grubbing gor.se on Beetham's road:— J. Laverty; 2s 10d per chain. The Overseer's report was read aud considered. It was decided to gravel the Tram <vay road near McConky'e, and repair the worse places, oa Sanderson's road. The Overseer was directed to call the attention of the Selwyn County Council to the state of the Selwyn traffic bridge, that the timber was in a state of decay, and required immediate atcention. This was more particularly the case with the main timbers of the bridge, which were in,a very unsafe condition. The Clerk was also instructed to communicate with the Railway authorities, pointing out the urgent necessity of clearing the approaches to the Selwyn bridge, which are now much overgrown with gorse, and would be dangerous to the structure in case of fire. It was agreed to shingle the Bakaia and Irwell road, providing that arrangements can be made with Mr flight for half the .shingle, the top of the road to be shingled from the west end. The pay sheet, amounting to £55 33 id, was passed for payment. It was resolved that the question of a new culvert opposite the Leeston Hotel, should be deferred till next meeting. The question of appointing a Ranger for the fcMesmere district was considered, and it was decided to take steps towards the appointment of a suitable person for the office. The Board, then adjourned.
