Although Vengeance was heavily backed by the Ballarat division for the Australian Cup, his victory was not nearly so disastrous for the riiigoe it would have been had either Megaphone, Correze, or Grey Gown won. Still they have experienced a terrible reverse, with but little hopes of recovery. Gibraltar broke down in the off fore leg, aud is not likely to race again. Received March 4th, 7.40 p.m. MELBOURNE, March 4. Only three horses are left in the Champion Race to-morrow—Carbine, The Admiral and WhlmbreL Betting Is 100 to 1 on Carbine.
