KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of this Council ■was held ou Tuesday. Present—Crs. W. Weatou (Chairman, in absence of the Mayor, who sent a letter of apology for absence from Wellington), Butt, iiugg, Brighting, Stantoa, LU&amau, Fraser and Andersou. From Public Works Department, undertaking to repair foocputh at Court House. Froui ; Property Tax Department, forwardmg voucher, JBB4 18* 9d, parable under Local Bodies and Finance Act. JbVom Railway Department, regretting the contribution could not be increased to fire su nip uear the passenger station. From Council's solicitor, for information as to agreement relative to Beach road drain. From Ashburton Couucil, for information as to Fire Brigade management. Ordered to be supplied. From Wellington City Council, tor co-operation in amendments on. municipal matters. Consideration adjourned. The Finance Committee reportedReceipts, £10117 a. Tho debit of current account was £53912s 7d, the credit of loan account £182 2s. Accounts, £10 17s 4d were passed, an amount of 6s 6d beitg subject to approval of Superintendent of Fire Brigade. The Chairman presented a favorable report ou the endowment reserve at Drotuore aud the improvements thereon , which had been visited by Cr. Lissaman aud himself. Cr. Lissaman thought the land was well farmed, in good grass, and might lie enhanced in value by plantations. Cr. Bugz moved —" T:>at Benuington and Beldwick's draius.be cleared by coutraet," Cr. Fmser seconded, and it was carried, Mr Parnham attended, and said the owners of land on the new Beach road draiu were averse to having a charge made upon their laud by way of lien to maintain the drain, but be now proposed that the owuers should now baud the draiu, which had cost about Jt2CO, to the Couucil without asking it for its. contribution of £60. If this was done the land owners would aign a conveyance of the land. Cr. Fraser moved, Cr. Stanton eeeonded— That this matter stand adjourned for a week. Carried. It was that the services of a Banger be obtained. After passing some formal business the meetiug adjourned. -
