HORORATA PUBLIC HALL

The annual meeting ot re.i___„ of Hororata to pass accounts for the /ear ending December 31st, 1890, and to elect a Managing Committee for the ensuing year, was held at the hall on Wednesday, 4th last. Sir John Hall was voted to the chair. The Treasurer, Mr Fountaine, laid the accounts for the year ending December 31st, 1.90, before the meeting. The accounts, which had been duly audited, showed tbat the total cost of building and furnishing amounted to £676 6s 6d; that £155 4s had been raised by subscription, £37 8s 7d by the Hororata race and opening balls, and £150 by loan, leaving a debtor balance of £33 13s 4d. To simplify the accounts this balance had been carried forward to tbe working account, aud the huildiug aud furnishing account had been closed.' The working account showed the receipts to have been £90 ss, and the expenditure, including the debit balance brought forward from the building account, £115 14s 7d, leaving a halance due to the Treasurer of £25 fs 7d. The Treasurer stated the total receipts, including the profits ot the opening ball, amounted to £112 Os lOd for the nine months that the hall had been open, and that a large amount of the expenditure had been for the properties and stage, items that would not occur again. With good management the whole debt should be cleared off within two years, leaving the hall ft site and freehold to tbe residents of the district. The Committee tendered a hearty vote of thanks to the ladies of the district for providing refreshments for the opening ball; to the linkers forgetting up and carrying out the rink carnival, and to tbe .Dramatic Society for providing two most successful entertainments. The accounts were duly passed. Mr Cresswell proposed " That the Committee for the past year be re-elected." Mr Jones proposed as an amendment "That a new Committee te balloted for." The amendment was carried, and Messrs Fountaine, Thome, Ma-fey, Th waites, Brownlee, Oliver, and Jones were elected as a Committee for the ensuing year. Votes of thanks to the Committee for their services daring the past year, to the Treasurer lor the trouble he had taken in financial matters, and to the Chairman closed the meeting.
