THE AKARAO SEAT.

[Br l_bsoß_r_._

(FBOM ©OH SPECIAL OOBBES^OJOOENT,) WELLINGTON, January 27.

I understand that the hew Ministry had decided before separating for the session on bringing in a-Bill to validate Mr Joyce's electiod' for ..Akaroa. They contend that Mr Joyce should not be held responsible for the mistake made by the. Returning Officer in allowing twelve of the polling booths to be closed at 6 p.m. instead ;?f seven. The present v Opposition, however, entered a strong protest against the proposed Bill on the.'ground that it would be highly improper for Parliament to-interfere in the matter after it had been' brought before the Supreme Court, and 16 consequence of this protest I am informed that the Bill has been dropped. Mr McGregor's petition' against the election; is to be heard ,ariy in February.
