LAWN TENNIS.

SOUTHBRIDGE v LINWOOD. The second match of the season between these Clubs was played on the Linwood Courts on Saturday last. Through unavoidable circumstances the strength of the visiting team was somewhat weakened by the absence of Dr. Withers, but on the whole the play was of a very high order, some reaily excellent work being shown at times during the day. The weather was beautifully fine, and the courts were in first-class condition. The visitors were entertained at luncheon at the Eastern Hotel, and during the afternoon the ladies of the Club provided a bountiful supply of tea, cake, Sec, to the players and the large number of visitors who witnessed the match. The result of the day's play, although placing a substantial win to Linwood on the number of games, shows a very closely contested match. The following are the scores :— SINGLES. Sfcyche (L) beat Gates (S), 10—5. Bruce (L) beat Willis (S), 10-5. Brieted (L) beat Whitehouse (S), 10—7.
