The attention of the Members and the General Public is called to some of the special features connected with this Society, which is the Oldest Colonia Institution of its kind, having been lestablished in the year 1849 The results of the business for the Forty-flrst Year, ending 31st December, 889, may be summarised as under :— FIRST—The number of the New Policies issued was 11,664. SECOND—The New Assurance Business effected was for L 3,679,459, THHtD—The New Annual Premium Income amounted to L 121,800, FOURTH—The net increase to the business, after allowing for loss of income from terminated policies, was represented by 7028 Policies, assuring 12,109,199. "FD7TH—The operations of the year rained the annnal income of the Society from to L 1,825,185, an increase in twelve months ot LH2.905. ,Sl?:Tfih-The Accumulated Fund was increased durin the year by the cum of L742.31L equal to 7 per cent, of the gross premium re. ceived. SEVENTH—The deaths among lives assured were 649 under 735 policies, causing claims upon the iSoeiety amounting co L 259.602, irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number expected according to the Tables used in estimating the liabilities would have been 1143 for an amount of L 438,&76, the mor tality experience being thus ex : trexnely favorable. EIGHTH—The receipts from Interest »nd rents were L 516,832, an amount exceeding the sum paid for the claims by 1138,952. NINTH—The expenses of Management were only 9.5 per cent, of the total receipts. TENTH—The Caah surplag divided for the year 1889 was L 426,494, being at the rate of 41-5 per cent, on the premiums received. The operations of the Society during the forty-one! years of its existence may be summarised as under :— It has Issued 141,907 policies, as--8uringL49,417,717. It has paid to'the representatives of deceased members over L 4,000 000 in satisfaction of death and matured claims. It has divided among the members cash bonuses aggregating over L 4,000,000, yielding reversionary additions of over L 8,000,000.
